The below Matthew Verses were for the Religious Rulers of Ancient Judea/Jerusalem. Because they did not Know the Year of their Visitation (Luke 19:44) The Lord Jesus Christ's ministry was for that ONE Visitation Year only.
From one appointed Passover to the next appointed Passover
Matthew 16:3 And in the morning, '[It will be] foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot [discern] the signs of the times.
Matthew 16:4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a Sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the Prophet Jonah. And He left them and departed.
The GODMan Jesus Christ gave them a sign ---> To read the Message Jonah yelled out to the people of Nineveh.
"A Day for a Year".......................40 years later, Jerusalem was leveled to the ground.

Creator GOD does warn us of bad times to come
Jonah 3:1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
Jonah 3:2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
Jonah 3:3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.
Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
Jonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed GOD, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
Jonah 3:6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered [him] with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
Jonah 3:7 And he caused [it] to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
Jonah 3:8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto GOD: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that [is] in their hands.
Jonah 3:9 Who can tell [if] GOD will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Jonah 3:10 And GOD saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and GOD repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did [it] not.
Luke 19:41 Now as Jesus drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,
Luke 19:42 saying, If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things [that make] for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
Luke 19:43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,
Luke 19:44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the Time of your Visitation."
Luke 19:45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it,
Luke 19:46 saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' "
Luke 19:47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him,
